The Viking Backers welcome the class of 2016 and new transfers to Mt. Hebron High School. You're joining a phenomenal community of caring, involved faculty and parents who share the goal of ensuring your time at Mt. Hebron is enriching & fulfilling. We also extend a hearty "Welcome back!" to all returning students, especially the seniors who are embarking on their final year of high school!
The Viking Backers are the booster group for Mt. Hebron.
We're a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization, dedicated to raising funds for the students of Mt. Hebron. Every year, we raise funds through a variety of initiatives, and donate the proceeds to the many clubs, sports team, performing arts, and campus projects. Last year, our donations exceeded $40,000 and we're hoping to surpass that this year! Some of our larger donations have been the gymnasi-um and field hockey score boards, the Gator cart and flagpoles for the campus.
We raise funds through a number of initiatives.
We operate two concession stands: The Viking Galley - our indoor stand located in the main lobby, and The Gold and Black Shack - our outdoor stand located adjacent to the track behind the school. The Gold and Black Shack is going through the final stages of construction and we're very excited about its unveiling at the first home football game on August 31! We also sell Mt. Hebron spirit wear throughout the year at a number of events, starting with the Freshman orientation on August 24.
The Backers also partner with two driving schools for your driving-age students.
We're pleased to announce the return of both Greg's Driving School and Street Smarts. Classes are offered monthly at Mt. Hebron. Class times for the next few months can be found in this issue of the Viking Voice.
Whether you're new to Mt. Hebron, or a parent with your 2nd, 3rd or 4th student passing through the doors, the Backers welcome you to the community. We invite you to join us in our efforts to support the students & faculty.
We meet on the first Monday of each month at 7pm in the Staff Lounge, (right off the main lobby, next to The Viking Galley). We're always in need of volunteers; whether it's chairing a committee, helping to plan an event, working concessions, or being a parent rep for your student's club or sports team. Our next meeting is Monday, August 6. We hope to see you there.
"Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in."
